The Regional Challenge
The U.S. territory of Guam, the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), the Republic of Palau (ROP), the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) form the Second Island Chain, a strategically vital arc spanning the western Pacific near East Asia.
While Micronesia’s prime location at the edge of East Asia should serve as a powerful engine for growth, its economic potential remains largely untapped.

Strategic Micronesia: Emerging NGOs Advancing the Region
To help unlock the region’s economic potential, our team of seasoned professionals with deep regional expertise is launching Strategic Micronesia, an initiative focused on boosting economic development, improving Micronesia’s business climate, and strengthening institutional resilience across the islands. This effort deploys two targeted NGOs to achieve its goals. The first is The Sakman Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educational advancement, workforce development, and remote employment opportunities. The second is The Micronesia Advisory, a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization built to strengthen connections between Micronesia, Washington, and our allies in the Indo-Pacific while optimizing local business environments and facilitating project finance for critical infrastructure.
Within the First Island Chain, the PRC has aggressively seized territory in the South China Sea’s Spratly and Paracel Islands. These areas are also claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam, with partial claims from Malaysia, the Philippines, and Brunei. In addition, China appears to be expanding its reach in the Second Island Chain.
As geopolitical competition in the Indo-Pacific intensifies, strengthening the economic resilience and institutional capacity of the Second Island Chain has become increasingly important to regional security and stability.
The United States has longstanding strategic commitments and deep historical ties to these islands, and a vital interest in supporting a free, prosperous, and self-determined Micronesia. That relationship was forged in part through the sacrifices of more than 10,000 American service members and thousands of Micronesian civilians who died or suffered casualties in the campaign to liberate the islands during World War II. Honoring that shared legacy today requires sustained investment in the region’s long-term economic strength, democratic institutions, and security. Strategic Micronesia advances its mission through two complementary NGOs that will work in concert to strengthen economic development and improve the business climate to support the ongoing development of resilient, self-sustaining communities across Guam, the CNMI, Palau, the FSM, and the Marshall Islands.
The Sakman Alliance: Charting New Horizons
The Sakman Alliance is a dynamic C3 nonprofit organization under formation dedicated to driving large-scale, collaborative advancement across the Pacific and beyond. Our name is deeply rooted in the extraordinary maritime heritage of Micronesia. The Sakman is the largest ancient, ocean-going, long-distance voyaging canoe built by the indigenous Chamorro people.
Renowned for its revolutionary engineering, featuring an asymmetrical hull and a distinct “crab claw” lateen sail, the Sakman glided across deep ocean waters at speeds that stunned early European explorers, who dubbed it the “Flying Proa.” The Sakman symbolizes ingenuity, resilience, and exploration. Just as generations of Micronesian navigators have traversed the ocean and connected island communities, The Sakman Alliance seeks to build pathways that connect islanders to educational opportunities, meaningful careers, and international partnerships. Our organization bridges distances and accelerates human potential through two cornerstone pillars: global education and modern workforce mobility

College Mentoring
Connecting students with seasoned mentors to successfully navigate higher education and career pathways. A goal will be to help deserving students gain acceptance with scholarships to leading colleges and to assist all college-bound students in creating a game plan for earning a bachelor’s degree while avoiding the college debt trap.
